Review: Nokia E51 Rose Steel

So, this is it… the phone I have been bragging about. Yet another business class smartphone from Nokia running on S60 platform. :)

Unboxing? Yeeaaah.. nope.. just to show how the box look like. *kind small and slim box used as well*

Open up, ahh… the handsome boy sit just right there…

I bought the Rose Steel version… it looks really nice in person. The photos taken were some how a little ‘overcolored’. It does not look as bright actually.

It is so sleeeeeeeeeeeeek and slimmmmmmmmmmm! I wonder how nokia packed all the features into this small wonder? how..? The metal trimming around the phone were top notch-ly done. You must be wonder, how easily this metal trimming and the back metal case would get scratches… but I tell you… Nokia has really done the research enough to opt for this metal usage, it does not scratch as easy as you think! I have been using it for months (2 months plus to be exact), I never like pouch for phone… and normally I just slip it into my pants pocket, jeans or slack pants. ’til today, I have not seen a single scratch, not even one hair line scratch to be precise. :) good job Nokia!

Holding it in hand, it tells you how solid it is built. Again, no creaky sound when you use a little force to press on the phone case. The design is a blend of class and smart touch.

The back case, full metal with wave lines as part of its series design. You’ll be able to see yourself clearly as the metal was not being ‘brushed’, it is mirror glossy’ed.

on the right (volume up/down and recording button – long press)

Top (on/off button)

Bottom (USB data port, charging port and handfree port)

the side/top buttons were a little stiff to be pressed in an effective way, a little forces is required. And I think the rubber button would definitely wear out with this kind of rubber material used **just my thought anyway**

Conclusion (so fast? yea, let’s jump direct to this!)
Overall, the phone is very snappy. Fastest among other S60 I have used. The screen might be a little cramp for a business smartphone, but it is sharp and bright. Best part is, under direct sunlight, the screen is visible.. just like other Nokia E-series, great! The sound playback although not great, but it is at acceptable level (to me!), the 2mp camera was okay too, just make sure you use the suitable white-balance mode when capturing, it gives you better photo quality result. **far more better than the consumer based Nokia N81 for sure**

As usual, it runs on S60 FP1 edition. Stable, and faster web page rendering. Battery life is very good as well, with regular Wifi’ng for 30 minutes, 20 minutes talk and 15 sms in a day, the phone capable to last me 3 days atleast on a 3G stream.

Lastly, it’s is fashionable, good built quality, acceptable speakers, sleek and slim (but not light), all in one features packed phone, with of course very reasonable price at RM900 (I got the AP set instead, authorised dealer’s set tagging at RM1.2k). Worth every penny spent I can assure you this.

and I love it!

  1. Please state your contras about this model?
    what about the speaker phone?
    volume key? is it hard?

  2. speakerphone is pretty okay but not great, i think all E-series from Nokia have pretty good noise management and audio quality. and yes, the volume up/down key is kind of stiff to press.

you just can’t go wrong with E-series S60 from Nokia. **well.. E65 is exceptional**
